CS373 Spring 2021: Blog 13

  1. What did you do this past week? I attended class, did some more HackerRank breakout room activities, and learned more about SQL this week. My group and I also had a couple of meetings to plan out the rest of what we had to do for Phase 4.
  2. What’s in your way? Nothing much is in my way; I feel like the busiest and toughest parts of the semester are over. I can’t believe there’s only 2 more weeks of classes left!
  3. What will you do next week? I’ll continue attending lecture and keep working on refining the project code with my group. We split up our tasks and I mostly just need to finish the frontend, make visualizations, and contribute a little bit to our final presentation.
  4. If you read it, what did you think of the What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You? It makes me a bit nervous to enter the workforce after college as a woman, but hopefully things will be getting better over time. In my internship last year, everyone was very welcoming and I didn’t experience anything similar to what the article said. However, in classes, I have noticed some of these things happening, so it’s still quite common and probably not going to go away anytime soon. We can only try to raise awareness about these issues and educate people about the right thing to do.
  5. What was your experience of joins and refactoring? I’ve had a little bit of experience with joins from using SQL in the past but I didn’t know about natural join. I enjoyed the refactoring activity we did on HackerRank.
  6. What made you happy this week? This was definitely my most chill week of the semester, which was a very nice break because this semester was really busy for me in terms of work and meetings. I’m glad that summer is approaching soon as well!
  7. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week? For this phase of the project, definitely use a tool like Prettier (JS/TS formatter) or Black (Python formatter) to format your code for you!
